Our Aim

As a network of research institutes and think tanks in Asia. NTS-Asia aims to do the following :

  1. Develop further the process of networking among scholars and analysts working on NTS issues in the region
  2. To build long-term and sustainable regional capacity for research on NTS issues, and
  3. Mainstream and advance the field of non-traditional security studies in Asia.

Workshop on Non-Traditional Security in Asia
14 - 15 September 2006, Institute of International Relations (IIR), Hanoi
Prof. Amitav Acharya, Dr. Mely Caballero-Anthony and Dr. Ralf Emmers conducted a one-day workshop on Non-Traditional Security in Hanoi, Vietnam on 14 September 2006. The workshop was organised jointly by the Asia Foundation (Vietnam) and the Institute of International Relations (IIR), Vietnam.

Workshop on Illegal Migration and Non-Traditional Security: Processes of Securitisation and Desecuritsation in Asia

Objectives

  • examine the dynamics of securitization of the complex issues related to migration
  • analyse the policy responses by states and non-state actors in addressin the insecurities, threats and challenges posed by migration. The workshop brought together all the paper writers of the project as well as officers from the Ford Foundation office in China, represented by Dr Andrew Watson. Representative from the Asia Foundation, China also attended the workshop
